Growing up in DC
they never quite got along with me
and everyone had big, big dreams
the Beltway grew around us
it was a big ring concrete circus
and though I had the head for is
I found charm in Baltimore
and angry city of steel
and I found charm in Baltimore
I just wish you all liked me here
politics takes iron and a willingness to steal
the whole scene made a pass at me
I had the look but not the feel
I’m too old to be a saviour
by 10 years plus some change
some days I’ve got the heart for it
but even this town thinks I’m strange
I found charm in Baltimore
and angry city of steel
and I found charm in Baltimore
I just wish you all liked me here
so I’ve been racing off on interstates
even when I’m married to your streets
my fading sight is just a symptom
hon it ain’t you, my fading vision is my disease
and I’ve been racing off on highways
and coming home tired to your streets
my fading sight is just a symptom
‘hon it ain’t you, I know it’s me
I KNOW it’s me
so growing old in Baltimore
It ain’t as romantic as it seemed
and all these kids on my lawn today
have all got big, big dreams
but the failed trains surround us
the failed schools confound us
I guess I just don’t have the rage for you anymore
I found charm in Baltimore
and angry city of steel
and I found charm in Baltimore
So I think I’m leaving here
