March 23rd, 2025. The Music City Open Mic.

A really fabulous night at Morsbergers – and one that made me feel like I must be getting SOMETHING right. The last few months I’ve been very aware of simply being overfull at my open mics. It’s a great problem to have, but it means I’m turning people away, and people are getting frustrated with the list – and I don’t really have a solid solution for this yet. In the past I’ve randomized the list, but that’s really more about people rushing the list at the beginning, or not sticking around – it doesn’t solve the problem of having too many signups. I will probably have to stick to shortening down to one song past a certain time, with perhaps exceptions for newbies… but that’s in the future yet.

In the meantime, the regulars are solving it amongst themselves – they spot someone new, or someone late, and they’re offering one of their songs to the other person. And that’s awesome. I could incentivize this in some way – with a bar I probably can give a free drink to someone who’s willing to give up a slot – something like that. But it’s way better to see people freely doing it of their own volition.

A special note to DRUMMERS : recently our friend Charlie’s been coming out and setting up a kit! You’re probably welcome to play it if you ask him nicely! Though Morsbergers has a lot of metal bands on weekends, the open mic night tends to be more singer/songwriter – please be prepared to play accordingly (hot rods encouraged).
