Dave Godbey died Tuesday. His daughter reached out this morning and I felt terrible because I didn’t even know he was ill. Just within the last week I’d been thinking about him. I thought about reaching out, but I didn’t. You should always reach out.
Dave had been a part of our open mic community since 2016 or so and was always an intense, but joyful presence. He was a bass player in bands in college and clearly still wanted to be a rocker, and perhaps more than any other performer was always bringing in another performer. Elena and Autumn and others. He was happier when playing with others. Myself and Dave Benham and Chuck the Madd Ox all got to play with him over the years and it clearly gave him joy.
He was a believer in justice, and I’m sad for him to have died in this current cruel moment in history. He’d no doubt have been happier knowing that there was a better world in place for his daughter, Mia.
Pour out a Flying Dog Raging Bitch for him if you can find one.
We Love you and we miss you.
