SO – today’s a little weird. Coronavirus fears are getting a little more prominent and before heading out to this I had a LOT of phone calls with organizations that I work with, a couple of gig cancellations, and a good number of texts and messages asking if the open mic was on.
We still had a good night, but it was definitely sparse.
It’s weird, and I don’t think I talked about it much, but running an open mic as a pandemic gathers around us is a mixture of hope and slightly stupid resistance. The modern Muppet intro song “It’s time to wipe the cables, it’s time to wipe the mics!” is frankly one that I sing through the whole flu season, but I’m making sure it’s a lot more visible and I put out a public statement asking people to stay home if they feel ill. NO REALLY.
I mean – just two or three weeks ago (and even then it made me shudder) I had someone say “oh, I’m not 100% because I’m getting over something”… well, grab the mic, wipe it down, swap it out and swab it out. Even at the BEST of times we don’t want that here. Come on.
Tavor
Talya Tavor was a regular a couple of years ago, but it’s good to have her back as a featured artist tonight!
Featured artists are made possible through donations by our in-house audience and Focus Music – www.focusmusic.org.
The Teavolve Café & Lounge open mic happens just about every Monday at Teavolve, signup at 6pm, performances from 7-10pm. 2 songs / 10 minutes whichever’s shorter, with a PG13 environment – and is hosted by rob Hinkal of the band ilyAIMY.
