Saturday has been long-awaited and up to the last second we were unsure if it was going to happen, but Debbie’s been crossing her t’s and dotting her i’s and has been very cautious – so we loaded up the ilyMobiles and sallied forth and made a whole lot of noise at our friend Debbie’s farm! As advertised : she’s got big acres, we’ve got big speakers!
Still, I hate the feeling of being WORRIED about Live performances. About how people are going to treat one another. About how people will act. I’m not even really that worried about actually catching COVID-19 because I feel like I’m being pretty cautious (plus we’re just not really GOING anywhere), but there are always a couple of odd moments here and there. People who clearly don’t give a fuck in the supermarket. People who forget themselves and start getting a little close at the show. People who (what the fuck) are really really high and just NEED to touch your instruments?
The show itself was good. I have a lot of video to prove it. We’ll see how that all turns out. There were a bunch of WONDERFUL interactions. But there were a couple of weird ones too. The same woman who apparently started stroking Heather’s Martin had also come up to me to say I was dumb for not coming down to Virginia where “there’s a SO MUCH MORE opportunity for Live music” right now – which just says to me that there’s a reason why Virginia’s COVID cased are outpacing ours.
I also liked this quote : “I mean, I don’t mean to pick at a sore spot, maybe, but… well let’s have some REAL talk… where are all YOUR friends?!” Well, we let her know that though we invited some close-to-the-area friends we always treat Debbie’s birthday party show as a private for HER event… but yeah.
MOST of the day was really awesome. It was good to set up gear, good to set up sound, good to play hard with Rowan.
