December 3rd, 2020. Dance of the Furries.

Had an amazing night last night. Needed an amazing night last night. I don’t think the power of the fuzzy onesie can be denied. Just a joyous evening and the first time Sharif and Heather have seen one another since February.

Still unsure if we were making all the right decisions last night. Individually I think we’re all being as cautious as we can be but Sharif has a LOT of variables from his job (and a lot of testing) and Heather has a LOT of variables with her kids – I think we’re all going back and forth whether we made an intelligently calculated decision in all getting together or if it was just fatigue throwing caution to the wind – but we had plenty of airflow since the onesies were so damned hot and – well, it was really, really good.

People know how to Live while tuning in.

I’ve been having strange dreams, writing songs, working hard – I rebuilt my computer yesterday – keeping busy. I feel like I’m almost TOO busy to do a deep dive into my decision-making, at least for the moment. We’re masking up, not seeing people… we’re getting invited to play shows here (come to Virginia – the laws are WAY looser here!) but I think that US gathering is one thing, us encouraging OTHERS to gather is… stupid, irresponsible and even if it WEREN’T the optics of saying “coming out and supporting US is more important that a raging pandemic!” aren’t particularly hot.

Heather’s little brother demands more music….

The tone in booking requests has changed a touch at least. Almost apologetic. Almost like the person reaching out to us knows that this is sort of a crappy request but the owner’s making them do it… or maybe I’m projecting.

In any case – I was invited to be part of the Acoustic Guitar Project this year and my turn with the well-travelled “Minor Lark” was this week. I picked up the guitar from Patty Reese on Sunday afternoon and was worried that I wouldn’t produce anything with it, but (prooobably wrongfully) somewhat inspired by the topic for the VOM monthly new song prompt “A Terrible Sense of Safety” a tune popped out of me Tuesday afternoon. I’m pretty proud of it and though I’ll definitely throw “Everything Hurts” at my Zoomlings at the song-challenge VOM I’m obligated NOT to share it until it’s released by the AGP.

So – I probably won’t tell you more about THAT because the song’s gotta stay SOMEWHAT under wraps – so I’ll maybe tell you about my dreams?

Hrm. That one’s too erotic. You’ll get nothing out of me.

The other one… where I can’t remember anything except for the statement “and for every one of them that Lives, four must die” unfortunately has absolutely no further detail. It’s weird to remember a sentence rather than a narrative or an image… but there you go.

And the one from Tuesday night where I dreamt about a 4 piece band of old white guys (OLDER THAN ME!!!) arguing that they had to cut all their Bruce Springsteen out of their setlist… well that one went like this : 1 guy was like “with Trump out of office Bruce’s message is dead and so is America” and guy 2 was like “with Trump out of office we don’t need Bruce’s message anymore” and guy 3 said “it’s time to usher in new voices, it’s time to retire Bruce” and guy 4 was like “we need Bruce’s message now more than ever but I got outvoted”.

Odd.
