Because this is a massive changing of gears from my last post let me first say: Thank you to everyone who reached out. I know I’m difficult. Thanks for all the Love. I’m still trying to figure out how to address my head.
So – in video games I’m an obsessive hoarder. You can draw plenty of conclusions from that. Look at my basement or my hard drives or my mom’s house and you’ll say “I get it”.
But then there’s another aspect to it.
I’m in the process of clearing our basement right now. Plenty of crap. Plenty of crap that I need “permission” to part with. Plenty of crap that means nothing but the memories and so I take a picture and chuck it. Because it coming up regularly in my screen saver or something is actually going to bring me to those memories more frequently than keeping it in a box in the basement.
But then there are the surprise boxes and bags from my mom. They are… uneven… and I don’t think I’d truly appreciated that until now. She’s frequently popped by and said “oh, and here’s a box from the basement BYE!!!” or she’ll ambush me at a show “I’ve still got keys to your car so I left some things for you in your trunk!” (creating occasional “oh crap how do I get my gear home?!” problems. And so often I’ll say to myself “I can’t deal with that RIGHT NOW and shove it in the basement. Especially if the surface layer is something like… Lego pens.
However – in this cleanout process – as I run across these random stacked caches of stuff I realize I really SHOULD open every one when I get it because yes… sometimes it’s Lego pens and I probably don’t actually NEED Lego pens… but I’ve also found an air compressor, a manual car battery charger, my Dad’s old Rubik’s Cube shirt, an airbrush and Queensrÿche’s Operation : Mindcime on VHS.
Quite literally very mixed bags.

I have memories of you from college in that Cheerios shirt.
