Last night was delicious. We had a huge crowd at Coffee Amici, and despite the bitter cold weather outside, the coffeehouse soon grew hot and humid and we worked our way through the set inside a room with the atmosphere of a rock club. Craig, as always, did an awesome job on sound, and I was really glad that after all of our enthusiasm, Kristen’s introduction to the venue Lived up to the hype.
Of course, intimidated by a room with people who actually KNEW my lyrics, I promptly lost them on “Baliset”, but I had plenty of people to help me recover.
And so now we’re skirting along the northern edge of Ohio and Indiana. I’m disappointed that despite being a stone’s throw from Michigan, we couldn’t find any place to play on a Sunday, and have no excuse to dodge over the border and play a few songs… Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin…. There are a few states that seem close enough that we really SHOULDN’T have them outstanding on our ‘haven’t played there yet” list… and yet Michigan remains resolutely unmolested by ilyAIMY’s musical fingers.
Today we’re just driving to Elkhart, IN. It’s an easy shot, less than three hours, but with nothing to do at the far end but to get into town and crash. Might go see a movie, might go to a mall… might do anything, but chances are there just won’t be much TO do – it’s Sunday, we’re in the Midwest, and even west, Elkhart’s a small town chosen more for convenience and cheap hotels than for its inherent exciting properties.
The last couple of days we’ve been in hotels – motels, inns – whatever. A hostel the night before that – I was truly expecting these days to feel luxurious, but none of us are sleeping. The Tiffin Motel had an awesome Lego collection, but despite the presence of a magnificent Lego Imperial Star Destroyer, sleep didn’t get under my skin till half way through the night. Last night at the Findlay Inn I had all the pillows I could ever dream of having, and I nested accordingly, but I still didn’t get to sleep till four in the morning or so.
Sigh – I guess we just need some floors or couches or something to get our spines in line with the rockstar Lifestyle.
