I’m sitting in a studio that I completely and utterly don’t understand.  I’m used to being able to trace the signal path.  I’m used to recognizing the brand names.  I’m used to seeing a little bit of dust – and then this is a basement studio as well – and there’s a whole level of expectation that comes from that as well.  It’s a massively impressive rig with good soundproofing, wonderful chairs, webcams and a security system keeping track of everything going on both inside and outside the studio and a command console that looks like something that could command a spacecraft.  There are lots of little innovations that speak to this being a very, very customized and comfortable space.  The talkback mic is controlled by a foot pedal, racks appear to be customized.  Monitors are mounted perfectly and even the hints of décor evoke a very particular sensibility that seems both comfortable and creative.

Kristen’s playing cello for… someone…. I’m not entirely clear who he is.  He’s just some guy who’s giving very precise but colloquial direction named Tossin (?) as she improvises based on his instruction on a song she’s never heard before.  Cool sound, kind of a world-beat jazz sort of sound.  Good bass player, fantastic drum track – I can’t imagine how they fit a drum kit in this space… unfortunately I can’t imagine ilyAIMY recording here – but I’m in Love with the feel of the studio.

After all, there be dragons here!
