I’m an exhaustopuppy. And my real job is yet to begin today. We’re headed on over to the Old Bowie Town Grille to run my open mic. I have no idea if we’re getting a big crowd (we missed a week last week due to Saint Patrick’s Day so probably people are a’hankerin’) or a small crowd (the weather’s threatening snow and rain). I’ve also stupidly managed to forget my power adapter for the Zoom – I have yet to decide whether I should run through the house system (eeeeehhhh) or off batteries (mmrrmrrrr) for the night. I’m prepared to do either and probably will lean towards the latter simply to try doing it and see how well it works.
(several hours later) Heh – worked fine. Wish I could say the same for the overall system. There’s just a fierce edginess to one of the mains at OBTG that really bugs me. I used my frequency reader thingy to help me track down some of it and I was able to do a LITTLE massaging of the tonality, but overall I’m still not very happy with it. Also the monitor channels died on me and I had to do some hasty re-routing, much to my chagrin. It went by pretty invisibly for most of the night, but I DID have one act ask for something that SHOULD’VE been very simple (vocals down in the monitor) and I had no way to oblige.
Paloo.
Other than that – the ustream continues to be problematic. I don’t really know what to do about it either. It’s been more or less a great service for many-a-year at this point, but this past week it’s been twitchy as Hell AND on playback I haven’t been able to get ANYTHING to work but the ads.
Tonight’s featured artist, Cecilia Grace, was Lovely – as they are. Solid writing, great harmonies. I’ve got a new favourite song in the form of “Clear” – a slightly more aggressive tune (of course I like it). A slightly sparse night (decent list, but somehow it went by too fast – I’m just too damned efficient!) and I tried to give CG an extra couple of songs but they ran out of prepped material! Le sigh.
