Seth Morgan is thrilled to see us! The dance tent and Gandalf Murphy! alcon Ridge. Below – Falcon Ridge truly is a very special festival. Not just because of the array of talent or the welcoming-to-ilyAIMY spirit – but because of the sheer energy that the place has. Below is Gandalf Murphy and the Grand Slambovians performing in the Dance Tent. They are loud and monstrous and high energy and they were top hats. They bring in the under 30-somethings in droves and they’ve been adopted by a FOLK festival. I just can’t imagine this crazy almost-rave happening at Kerrville or Takoma Park Folk Festival or any of the other folk festivals we’ve played…. there’s just SO much FIRE at Falcon Ridge! Greg Klyma don’t dance. Maybe he will… Doug definitely does! As does Awkward Pause house concerts!
Okay – these are terrible photos… above, the peoples flood the hills of Hillsdale – below – probably one of my favourite moments at the Festival – the Friday Night Summer Song Swap with Vance Gilbert, Susan Werner, Ellis Paul and Mary Gauthier. It really blew my mind, especially to hear them play off one another. As of Thursday night at the Lounge Stage I now knew that Vance Gilbert was amazing (though I didn’t realize he could be so…. anti-folk!) and I knew Ellis Paul was a spectacular writer and performer. I’d crossed paths with Mary before too – but I’d only ever heard Susan Werner’s CDs in the past. Her Live performance simply blew my mind.
