The Magpie Faerie – she’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold (can you tell we tried out Led Zeppelin tunes out on the audience last night?) (thank Janna for the picture)
Shirley Temple and the infamous Magpie Faerie at the College Perk in College Park, MD.
Hrm. My meal after a long, hard night of working up a sweat on stage.
After the gig, after most people cleared out, Johnny the bartender brought out the BIG speakers and we had ourselves a little dance party. Heather boogied WITH crutches…

I have nothing to do today. Nowhere to go, noone to meet. It’s refreshingly stressless. I shall, perhaps, do laundry, or catch up on Battlestar Galactica, or go to the mall. Maybe I’ll hang out with Heather (yup, even after three years in a car together, I still like her on our days off!) or go sit at a coffeehouse. I’ve already finished rereading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (and teared up AGAIN… sheesh) and maybe I’ll finish Ilium. The point is, I have NO idea what I’m going to do, and it’s Lovely to simply have an unscheduled day. It’s delicious.

And I had to do some pimpin. Can you tell my face got too close to the Magpie Faerie’s? HUSH!!! She’s MARRIED!!!
And then on one leg with OUT crutches..

Monday night we played the Institute of Musical Traditions “Unledded” acoustic Led Zeppelin tribute. Sort of a Rowan birthday show, he’d been hoping to push it off another week to actually coincide with his actual birthday… actually, but alas Pat Wictor had that date. In any case, very cool night – good to see so many different people doing music so beloved by my high school self. I played “Tangerine” along with Cletus Kennelly and Lori Kelly, but there was some sound issue that kept me from actually being amplified in any way… I was pretty pissed off, but all the myriad IMT sound-slaves got together and made absolutely sure that our set (we closed the show) went off without a hitch. We of course, rocked – Tinsmith did an awesome version of Immigrant Song, the DC Steel Pan Project (yup, a steel pan band!) did D’yer Maker and Fool in the Rain… it was just a very fun night. I always feel like IMT shows somehow legitimize ilyAIMY in some way, that it’s a badge, much like recognition by the folk festivals, lends some level of folk credibility to our resume.

Styx plum tuckered after the show. Though we stopped playing a little after 11, we didn’t leave the Perk till around 1.30am.

Tuesday night – Halloween – as I drove back and forth dodging children and their dressed-up dogs, I semi-cursed the fact that I’d be hosting the College Perk open mic, as I think I was ready to spend a night NOT playing music… but going out there, it was mostly regulars through much of the night so I just sat back, played with Sharif, ran sound and ate College Perk’s fantastic tortilla soup. So very, very Lovely.

And so that brings us to today… and I ain’t doing NOTHING! (Well, except typing this…)

Heather and I wearing my high school Led Zeppelin shirts. She got the “Hammer of the Gods / We Are Your Overlords” shirt and I wore TWO t-shirts since I’d worn a hole in my Led Zeppelin IV shirt’s belly wore out years ago… those shirts are about 16 years old and feel like silk.
