Happ Groudhog’s DAY!!! It’s insanely cold and I think it’s the first time that I’ve been hoping for Phil to NOT see his shadow. I want snow, I want ice – but… frankly, could it do these things at around 30 degress instead of bone-chilling Hell degrees?

Last night Heather and I played the Pour House in Westminster. It was sort of a slow night, but different little groups kept piling in so we just played straight through the whole night, watching the windows for snow. We found our missing mic stand there, which is great, and met a couple of new people, who’s worlds we proceeded to rock, but all in all, I think I was looking forward to a night spent going to see a movie.

And tonight, my wish was granted. A group of friends and I all went out to see “Children of Men”. What an amazing flick! I see a lot of complaints from people online who didn’t get it, but I’m afraid that just because you like scifi doesn’t mean you’re clever.

On Saturday morning, Heather and I went on a trip of pleasure. We drove someplace, and didn’t have a place to play, didn’t have CDs to sell. We DID need to take photographs in California, PA for the new album, but mostly, we were driving up to see Crystal compete in her very first Rollergirl bout. AND to see winter – passing Sidling Hill which was smothered and covered (like things on the Denny’s menu) in ice.

Between being just an incredibly filmed flick – beautiful, intense – and one of the more grim scifi ideas, I was really impressed. It actually had that gritty, realistic aesthetic of Battlestar Galactica – half-hinted things and apocolyptic horror creates a horror, even depression throughout the movie, but the trivia references in the background and the quirky sense of humour scattered throughout breaks you out of your “I’m just going to have to kill myself here in the theatre” mood at the worst / best moments.

Last minute signage corrections before the match – the FOOLS forgot the H in “BB Basher” (Crystal’s Rollergirl alter-ego). Leave it to Heather, the journalist, to make it fit in the inches given.

I think I’m going to have to go see it again. Just not sure yet. If only to get some of the art references in the background, and to take Rowan. I want Rowan to see it!!! NOW!!!

Ah, Lovely Crystal. We Loved throwing her the horns as she made a fantastic accounting of herself in the roller ring. She was one of the most high-scoring players in the game. We were proud and screamed for her. She deserved her opening Iron Maiden anthem.
Ah, me chewing on Kimmy’s head at the afterparty after the bout, back at Crystal and Alex’s place in California, PA.
Baeckel and Erin looking far too 60’s rockstar for their own good.
Jamming in the Cryalex kitchen. It was like college again, though I quickly found myself not knowing what to do. I need a new acoustic bass for just such occassions.
I woke up the next morning on the floor at Jozart in California, PA to see the whole town turned beautiful and crystaline.
Working on photographs for cover art for the new album, tentatively titled “Between Lover and Twilight”.
Battling the blistering cold wind at California, Pennsylvania.
You’d expect steam, wouldn’t you?
