Heather’s been trying to get us into the Washington Folk Festival for many years – and they’ve told us for just as many years that since we’re Baltimore-based, we’re not local enough. That’s all fine and good to say, but out of 6 band members, five of us have worked at the House of Musical Traditions, two of us actually Live in the DC area and as of this year’s Washington Folk Festival 4 out of the 6 of us have actually already played the festival! Despite all those connections, this is the first year I actually went to check out the festival and suddenly everything became clear : ilyAIMY was not, is not and will never be a good match for this festival and that’s okay!
Jennifer Cutting Glassblowing is ALSO FOLK. The “not local enough” excuse had ESPECIALLY gotten old since the reason I was going was that both of my house mates were playing this year (above is Mosno’s Greek Nubian Collective performing at the Washington Folk Festival in Glen Echo, MD)… a good time was had but ilyAIMY ISN’T this kind o’ folk!
