I’ve been off the grid.

Well, not really. Not by any stretch of the imagination. But I totally haven’t opened my laptop for about 48 hours and that’s where my email resides. I’ve eyeballed my phone for important subject lines and outlandish “re:”s. So I haven’t been off the grid at all. I’ve just been highly irresponsible.

There’d have been some sense of satisfaction if once I DID reopen my laptop there’d been something screaming for my attention, but there wasn’t. No booking emails, nothing pressing from House of Musical Traditions… my cousin got married sans warning, but that caught the whole family off guard so I guess I don’t feel too bad about being out of the loop. Tonight’s #randomactsoftaiko show and next Saturday’s Halloween gigs are the last big gigs of the year and then there’s two months of relative radio silence (just a tour to North Carolina, a big highlight show in Virginia and a couple of bar gigs)… and then it’s time to buckle down and record and write and create.

It’s a grey day here in Maryland as we head south to Washington DC. I’m excited about tonight’s taiko show but we’re such a small part of the whole that I feel like I don’t have a firm grasp as to what’s about to happen. Over the course of a three hour show we’ll perform three songs (I think Kristen and Heather are each participating in one additional piece?) but I have the suspicion I’ll be having a whole lot of “stay out of the way” feeling for the rest of the evening. On the other hand, that goes with a whole lot of “I’m not in charge” which is kind of nice too.

Next week’s Halloween show is going to be the exact opposite and I’ll have to remember to eat!
