Early for the Show.

The Bump N Grind smells delicious. It’s a relatively large (for a coffeehouse) kind of space and with its high ceilings, glass walls and concrete floors it comes across as being physically very similar to Teavolve. I’ve been invited here as the featured artist of a local legend – but as I’m finding with most local legends, they’re often solely legends in my own head, immortalized by their history with House of Institute of Musical Traditions, and as I’m slowly accepted into their ranks, I often discover that it’s not REALLY a sign of getting much of anywhere except into a strangely highly regarded local community that is very famous for a strangely specific value of famous.

Still. It’s good to feel accepted somewhere – and in these ranks I also still get to be the “young one”.

With the SAW speech put to bed and delivered, and my NEXT SAW speech safely in the undefined future, my next concern is quite definitely the Takoma Park Folk Festival, which is looming – nay careening towards me – on the temporal horizon. There are literally hundreds of little fiddly bits (it would be incorrect to say that there were hundreds of literally fiddly bits) that need to come together and it’s coming down to the wire at just over two weeks away. Last year I used my focus on the festival as a way to defuse my panic over my wedding, this year I feel that I used my speech to defuse my panic over the festival.

You know – I do a LOT, but it’s not like I do TOO MUCH – I really should be able to attack ALL the things on my plate with equal gusto, sans procrastination or task prevarication. It would take a little more Plan Energy (Planergy) and a little more Mental Endurance (ME – as measured by 3d6 +/- racial norms) but surely it’d all be worth it. I’m sure that the points laid out in Planergy and ME would be easily recouped from my scales of both Stress and Self-Respect.

I mean… in game turns. Plus I’d probably actually practice what I preach.

In other news – in a record store / coffeehouse you’d think they’d have their stereo routing corrected properly so that it could knock to mono appropriately.

Actually – in addition – I think the song that’s being played (“War Pigs” by Black Sabbath) was originally recorded in mono – so I don’t know WHY Ozzy’s vocals seem to be vanishing.

That’s neither here nor there… maybe it’s being plugged through a DVD / AV system that’s EQued for movie playing?

Bah. As usual, it’s still about an HOUR since I’m supposed to be here. Let the Journal reap the benefits.

I DID eventually get around to playing! Curse the weird buzz in the sound system, but I rocked and raged nonetheless.
