A great combination of virtuosity and “fuck you”.

I vote that THAT’S a pretty flattering endorsement. Last night we ended up at an open mic at a place called the City Beverage. It was a nice enough place, cool people. Hideous acoustics, but that just means you stand closer to the speakers to get your fill of other people’s music.

The last two nights I’d watched a be-dreaded creature walking purposefully past us as we played at the Blue Horn. I caught her at one point during our show last night and thus we met Kezban (singer/songwriter – artist – baloon animals). We invited her to come out to the City Beverage with us where I grew increasingly nervous about what kind of performer we’d brought with us. I’ve been hanging around snooty folk circles too much, I guess – because I shouldn’t judge a player by their capo, nor a writer by their instrument. The fact that a tuning peg is broken, forcing the entire guitar to be tuned to C just meant that she had to have a pretty amazing voice to go with the tuning – murder ballads and passion poured forth.

It was a good night. Today was a work day – not much to it. Couldn’t get an open mic for the night and ended up going to see Stardust with my friend Katy. Gorgeous faerie tale of a flick. And now to relax with a cat… ploo.
