My birthday week’s been amazing. Sunday I hosted the annual FocusMusic meeting and showcase, and though apparently I BLUSHED under the attention, a lot of people made a big deal out of my work in the local music community and I got a big bonus. Yay! Berfday bonus.
The day was full of highs and lows – loading in from a distant corner of the parking lot because it was FULL kinda sucked, but getting to play with so many people was wonderful. Not being able to eat my huevos rancheros for most of the day because I was so busy made me sad – but the fact that they were still great cold made me happy! Finishing the day by 4pm made me happy, but having to load out really, really, really fast because they’d booked a mariachi band right on our heels was highly stressful.
And yay, friends chatting in the parking lot after a gig! One of my favourite past-times. Boo, car didn’t start. Yay AAA was fast, boo, friend who stuck with me through it got a flat tire. Yay, fixed the flat and drove home to my Loving wife.
And that was just Sunday.
Like I said, it’s been quite a week. Filled with Love and depression, joy and difficulty. My mother ran off to New Orleans with a banjo player where they both caught Norovirus and COVID, but they got good care at Tulane Hospital and are home and safe now, presumably after lots of really gross bonding, but unfortunately sans much chance to appreciate that oldest of American port cities…
Open mic night on the day of my birthday was a joyous thing. So much good music, great food, a joy to spend it with talented noisy friends.
Our friend Brooke Parkhurst came over and though we had a number of computer issues (my computer’s been really problematic recently) we got some great whistle parts recorded for “Everything I Remember About The War” and she made me AMAZING brownies.
And then of course there was LAST NIGHT – which was an awful lot of work – a 3pm load-in, sound for both ilyAIMY AND Ayreheart plus webcast, about as close to sold-out as that room could be (over capacity really, thanks to the webcast) and though my body is SORE this morning, it was… it was incredible.
Today I’m TRYING to take it slow. I got up, sat on the couch in the quiet and read a book.
But I don’t sit still for long and here I am, transferring data and typing to you.
Cause it’s been a good week.
