A good night. Friends really turned out and made it something special. Hoping to keep a good thing going.
We do this every Thursday night at Morsbergers at 713 Frederick Rd, Catonsville, MD, 21228. Signup at 6.30, music at 7pm. Enter through the back at the LARGER of the two doors! (the other entrances are straight to the bar side and they may or may not immediately point you unto the music side!)
Alas, the outdoors has turned against us. Sky deities send us rain and lightning, Canada sends us smoke and haze detritus, and let’s not even discuss the temperatures. Though I’ve long adored Little Market Cafe, with numerous cancellations for everything from flooding to air quality, the owner, Jeni, has been exploring other options for keeping Live music going on in the area.
Not to put it lightly, this woman hath her fingers into everything musical in the area, and though we COULD do El Guapos, we’d be shoved in a corner and have to bring in a sound system. And though we COULD to State Fare, we’d still be outdoors.
Enter Morsbergers. It’s got air conditioning, a roof, a stage and a sound system. Parking will be easier than in Ellicott City (lots in the area, both meanings of the word, street parking is plentiful and free after 6pm), the menu will be familiar (Jeni’s moved a number of her favourite items here and MAY even get her pizza oven up and running soon) and though the walk is a bit further for ice cream, you CAN get guitar strings (or a whole guitar) just a couple of doors down the block at Appalachian Bluegrass.
Morsbergers will be unlike any other open mic venue I’ve had. It’s a bar. It is “…taking the dive bar experience up a notch while keeping our down-to-earth honky tonk charm intact…” and though the open mic will be all ages, the “dive bar experience” ain’t. But, with the help of my open mic regulars (and new family as well) we’re going to make this just as much a home as any rOM venue before it. And I’m so thankful to Jeni for making it happen!
