Sponsored in conjunction with Institute of Musical Traditions AT School of Musical Traditions, down the street from HOUSE of Musical Traditions, this is a rare thing : a small LISTENING ROOM open mic. The evening is free, but every night we have a featured artist and we hope that you can support them by tipping or purchasing merch!

Tonight Fold Up Your Chairs will be our featured artist. My featured artist. The featured artist. Me and Juels and Rebecca will be the STARS!

Three performers from the Institute of Musical Traditions’ weekly open mic night, the Takoma SPARK, Rebecca Berlin, Juels Bland and rob Hinkal are brought together through the joy of Live music. Insightful (and sometime inciteful) lyrics, vamping piano, aggressive acoustic guitar and bluesy electric tones – these three award-winning singer/songwriters bring three disparate voices to one message : Fold Up Your Chairs! If you know, you know.

It’s Christmas Eve and all through the SPARK
we’ll turn up the music and tune out the dark
and maybe we don’t think too many people will come
but we’ll put out the list and we’ll play til we’re done
And maybe people will come cause music’s their hobby
and in the morn there’ll be guitars and new sympathetic strings for Bobby
under the tree bought from local proprietor
and sponsor of SPARK the infamous Dave Eis… ner
but that’s on the morrow
let’s not think of it yet

surely SOMEONE will come out we won’t be alone
even though Dave doesn’t do Christmas and rob’s wife has a show
I know Juels will come out
and that Rebecca Berlin

yeah, the night before Christmas at least Fold Up Your Chairs will be stirrin
signup’s 6.30
we’ll play till we’re done.

(this is why we generally don’t have poets)

This is NOT a restaurant so bring your own food or drink if you want to eat or drink! We have a house keyboard, but it’s a small space, unable to support acts larger than a quartet, and no drumkits. 2 songs, 10 minutes, 1 pun – whichever’s shorter. We webcast Live on Facebook.com/robsopenmics, YouTube.com/robsopenmics and Twitch.tv/robilyaimy
