February 18th, 2019 at Teavolve’s Open Mic w Marc Evans.
A pretty spectacular night at Teavolve. Though plenty of people came out because they knew Marc Evans, it didn’t seem like the majority of them had come specifically to see him. I’ve got theories about how social media contacted different audiences than normal, but really – who knows how that stuff works.
I think it was probably the fullest night we’ve had in a long, long time – with the back filled with audience as well as the main area. Marc was awesome, rolling with the punches as his band simply… failed to show up? Still not sure what happened there. But he rolled with it well, and there frankly aren’t many people ANYWHERE who could do a fantastic a capella set.
On the way out to Teavolve I had this wonderful moment observing tow truck fail – here’s my sight of the driver coming and picking up the bumper of the car she’s towing after having scraped it off in the street. 
Mi mi mi MEEE!!!! It’s the nice thing about having the day off from school – we get the school teachers! (welcome Joe Isaacs) Was really blown away by this new-to-me spoken word artist : Jah Love. A great audience tonight.

Magic night is magical not JUST cause it’s time for The Gathering, but also because Gela has good dogs!
Open mic day!
Saturday February 23rd saw me and Dave Benham wandering around to a couple of open mics. First I picked him up in Towson and then we raced down to the Damascus, MD Music Cafe, got lunch, played music – and then headed back ’round Baltimore to Perry Hall for the Perry Hall Folk night where our friends Tool Shed were featuring.

It was a meeting of a lot of old friends here – Ray Forton (above), Paul DeKraai, Dave Benham and I… … a great audience tonight…. Dave Thomas of Tool Shed. Charles Laumbert was my oldest regular for a while, celebrating his 90th birthday last year – and still playing and singing. Wish I’d gotten a better shot of this guy’s guitar : he’d built this 8-string out of scrap wood including his old porch and rescued Brazilian cherry!
February 23rd, 2019 – studio day in the rob Hol!
So Sunday I had nothing going on and kind of wanted to play music with friends, so Gela and Mosno came over to record a last song for FAWM (February Album Writing Month – which I MEANT to participate in but didn’t get around to) – we jammed on a riff that Mosno had been playing with, overlayed Gela’s daaf and a poem in Syrian – I beatboxed and played some electric guitars and then there were djembes and snaps! It didn’t QUITE gel and part of that was crap rhythm issues, but it’s actually pretty cool. Here’s the final product: https://fawm.org/songs/98344/
