I’ve been hosting open mics for almost 18 years. Over that time we’ve been through family deaths, marriages, fights. We’ve been through wars and terrorist assaults and natural disasters, protests and contentious election after contentious election. My open mic community writes songs inspired by their Lives and they sing their hearts out because for many of us it’s our only way of coping. These past few months have felt different. Rage and fear and questions about the future. It comes out in the music. Tonight we’re joined by Mike Bragg who’s really distilled a lot of those emotions in his music with a clarity that I hugely admire. It sends chills down my spine even as I reach for the compressor. At the open mics, I don’t get to spend time with him and his music nearly enough – so I’m grateful he can come over tonight so we can play it out. We both need it.
Almost every Wednesday at 7pm ET since March of 2020 ilyAIMY has gone Live from the Lair. Sometimes we’re chatty, sometimes we’re just here to play. Sometimes it’s the whole band, and sometimes we have guests, and sometimes it’s just rob. You never know what you’re going to get – but chime in on the chat and let us know you’re there. Cause we’re just doing what we do from a Basement in Baltimore.
Live on Facebook.com/ilyaimy, YouTube.com/ilyAIMY, and Twitch.tv/robilyaimy.
