February 4th, 2011 at Glen Echo Park!

Holy crap. I’m turning 50 on February 7th. But we figured we’d wait a day to celebrate so we didn’t have to deal with Friday night rush hour. We’ve booked the Ballroom Backroom at Glen Echo***, which is just about the coolest place to turn 50 (and a day). I’m guilty of using it as a date spot both legally and illegally. I’ve seen shows there. I’ve seen a puppet version of the Dragonriders of Pern here. I’ve photographed people here and rode the merry-go-round. I’ve seen incredible music here and I’ve seen an incredible musician throw up here.

Like. A lot.

Tis a storied place.

Catching Mosno Al-Moseeki at the Ballroom Backroom at the 2015 Washington Folk Festival.

Full band show, sound by the magnificent Chris Compton. Probably a couple of guest musicians being put on the spot. Probably including the magnificent Chris Compton. Food available. All sorts of stuff happens at this arts space : TWO arts exhibitions, one involving horseshoe crabs and another glasswork. Come early and get your Bollywood Dance lesson. Stay late and Square Dance. Stay even LATER and Swing Dance.

*You’re not crazy****. This was going to be elsewhere, but now it’s here.
**2-5pm?!?! I know, right? Madness. And yet, the more I thought about it, maybe it’s just the FIFTY talking, being homeward (or celebratory dinner)-bound by 6pm seemed really, really appealing. Kristen suggested we could call it the “Old rob goes to bed early show”. In other news I am NOT single. Yet.
***Yeah – BOOKED – as in RENTED. I’ve been really enamoured with the idea of maybe BOOKING a room rather than fighting with a bar or restaurant or something. So if this goes well… well, we’ll see!
****Okay, you MIGHT BE. I really just mean “don’t second-guess your memory”.

Very tempted. Running by my sister and her bestie. Since we’re in Lancaster and beyond, weather could be a factor. Do we pay in advance, or go on a list and pay upon arrival?

Yeah – who can guess at weather. Though we’re encouraging people to get tickets in advance, and I AM awesome, the chances of us like “selling out” are pretty low!
