It’s the last true day of the tour. I’m glad to see home on the horizon (metaphorically, temporally – even when we’re homeward bound good and proper we’re not going to see it on the horizon till we’re on top of it because of the way cities ARE). It’s been a particularly rough wandering, but I think we should always END with something like a Victoria Station show – because it lifts our spirits an dmakes us feel good and Loved. Last night was absolutely wonderful.

ilyAIMY performing in the ornate clutches of the Victoria Station Cafe in Putnam, CT. We had a packed night – I was worried that Easter was going to steal away much of our audience, but even people who had church services and family dinners dropped in for a set on their way in or out. It meant that some were quite well-dressed for the show….

Putnam is a tiny, beautiful town – probably a little bit too small – but it’s full of beautiful places and beautiful people. Probably a few too many beautiful women…. it’s just 30 miles from Providence and 60 miles from Boston and not at ALL too far off the beaten track. It’s got one of the best game stores I’ve had the joy of visiting, with some of the best action figure sales EVER – and I’m sure there’s a good music store around here somewhere. It’s one of my favourites – even IF it’s a bit overrun by bikers enjoying the first fondlings of spring right now.

I’m looking at our summer schedule, trying to figure out how things are going to fit together. There are a couple of annoyingly fast leaps from point A to point Z – frustrating jaunts that exceed my personal 4 hour drive limit – things that will get us to shows more exhausted than we ought to be. We’ve landed a couple of fun outdoor gigs back home that will involve racing home from distant places – once from Connecticut to Maryland, once from Indiana back to home. I need to start backing those trips out and really understanding how they’re going to work. We’ve been doing this for 6.5 years, arguably getting better and better at it, and I still feel like I’m riding a tiger in 7 league boots. (the cat’s got the boots, not me).

We had a weird disconnect the other night – so today we test EVERYTHING. -

Today we’re driving through Eastern Connecticut on the backroad highways (yes, they’re
real things) to Boston. We’re got the time and the patience and the electronic sense of direction to avoid the toll roads, and on a day like today it’s definitely worth our time to slow down a little and just enjoy the drive. Pine forests give way to old New England homes, cookies from Victoria Station give way to excitement over the Burren’s Irish fare and I’m pretty content to let my brain idle, telling you about the passing contents of my brain.
Happy Rhode Island! Alas, just passing through. We’ve got to find an excuse to make our way back to Providence soon. So many places, so little time.
