October 10th, 2016.

Before our gig at Barley and Hops on October 7th, Kristen and I wandered around Frederick, just because we could. Beautiful autumnal day. Ducks. Weird fish going GALLUMPH.

The election, all of its chaos and bullshit, it’s been looming for what feels like forever. I guess it’s been about a year that all of these monsters have been vying for power. Not that I give any false equivalency betwixt Trump and Clinton. Trump has nothing like the expertise and intelligence of Clinton, nor the self-control and discipline. On the other hand, Clinton really IS a continuation of America as it’s been. You can see that as a good thing or a bad thing. If you genuinely believe America as she is now is a nightmarish police state heading towards defeat and collapse – well – first I’d urge you to look at countries that genuinely have a police state in place as you comment on Facebook… since, you know, you’re allowed to do that. Go read about what it REALLY means to Live in a warzone and see how our Lives truly compare. The fools who’ve been convinced that we Live in some zero-sum society that teeters on extinction because of our acts of charity and belief in freedom – well, I wish they’d get their heads out of their asses and meet some people that aren’t JUST LIKE THEM and tell me just how the gays and the Muslims and the blacks and atheist abortion doctors have made their Lives so much worse.

Yeah – that’s ginger beer inspired by the Civil War Medicine Museum in Frederick, MD. I’m not sure if this makes me cautious or curious….I guess a little bit of both would be a healthy response. I’m not sure why we didn’t rush in and get some, but it’s on my LIST of things to consume sometime soon.

Fuck. I was raised on the whole “melting pot” concept of America. And I still believe in it.

Give me that old time religion. No double-speak, just torches and faith. The idea that a tape that’s been dusted off from a decade ago showing Trump to be a misogynist ass when he thinks he’s alone with friends doesn’t give me any greater or lesser reason to hate this man. And people who point to THESE comments as being any more relevant or offensive than what he’s said on the campaign trail – well, I believe that a person can change over 10 years (I don’t think he has, but I don’t think a ten year-old tape should be damning) and we don’t charge people for thought-crime, so no matter what he SAID, people say assholish things all the time [though my friends who say “oh come on, like you’ve never said anything like that when hanging with your guy friends” – no, no I haven’t – and if you have, you should a) know better than to ever admit it and b) accept the fact that you’ve earned my contempt and eternal suspicion – because though you can’t convict someone for saying “man, I’d like to sexually molest a married woman even though I’m also married and she’ll probably say yes even if she doesn’t want to cause I’m FAMOUS” – well, I think you should eyeball them suspiciously and be very cautious about leaving them alone with your daughter, spouse, Loved one, pets whathaveyou]…

A really fantastic night at Teavolve. There was a lot of political conversations, which made me a little nervous at first – but it was intelligent conversation and everyone spoke and listened and sang and we hung out in the streets till long after closing. Also, I got a really great shot of Derrick Credito. Also, also – how do I respond to an artist who complains that Teavolve’s “not black enough”? “I’m sorry you’re not comfortable, I look forward to your set”. I guess they haven’t been to a lot of open mics. They didn’t stick around at mine eitther.

sorry. Ranting lack of sentence structure.

What the HELL was I talking about? I guess just the idea that a decade old tape seems way less pertinent than all the crap he’s said on the campaign trail, and the idea that THAT’S what the nation wants to burn him for is just absurd. If fascist rob ruled America…
