After playing a late-night, kind of exhausting bar gig at Maloney’s Pub in Hammondsport, NY – August 11th was NOT over for us quite yet – except for in the literal sense that we broke down and got out of there a little after midnight, so this was actually the 12th… we had about a two hour drive ahead of us before getting to where were staying the night with new friends – on the way we passed the largest pancake griddle in the world in Birkett Mills, NY. This was done by coincidence, but it was still cool to see!August 12th found us in Sharon, MA setting up for a backyard concert for our friend Steve Kitay. His kid had a pet. That pet is Erebus, the Panther Chameleon. Who is the coolest chameleon I’ve ever met. Now I want a Panther Chameleon!
Driving driving. Headed down to Rockville. REM song stuck in my head. Not stuck enough for me to learn it though. Wedding’s coming up fast. Takoma Park Folk Festival is coming up faster. The organization of the festival is a lot MORE than I’d expected.
Last year was supposed to be a hand off of the Program Committee from the previous chair to me, but the festival fell over completely, and so there’s a year gap in all relationships, in institutional memory, and that hand off is less a “so this is what I’m doing” and more of a “uhm… do you have any idea how you did?”
as above – drivin’ drivin’…
It’s a LOT of work, the majority of which is something that I seem to spend all the rest of my time doing as well : people wrangling. Yeah, herding cats. Tonight’s a paying the bills kind of show, but generally pretty satisfying, and I feel I’ve always got to show up and hit it 110% for those rare bars who are all too happy to actually be booking original music. I take a lot of pride in playing whatever it takes to get someone’s attention, but all the better when it’s mine all mine.
Shame about the generic food truck tonight though. Usually they’re works of art and they take a lot of pride in their food too. Tonight however… plain red trailer serving pretty plain food. Pretty much the definition of meh. Well, lezgo spice it up.
Greg Klyma opening for us at Steve Kitay’s backyard house concert in Sharon, MA on August 12th, 2017. our amazing audience for the night. TO the right, ilyAIMY rocking out in Sharon, MA!August 13th found us having a great breakfast around the outskirts of Boston… it was delicious, the place was packed… and yet with all the spectacular food and help and decor they could really use a door stop.August 13th we drove home from Massachusetts – what should’ve been a 6 hour drive became 10+ hours. The above red-lipped horse was the last moment of fun for this day.
