there are things I wish I could say that I can’t say due to politics or political correctness (two different things) or simple civility. My need to express myself should never outweigh my desire not to upset someone else unintentionally. It kinda bugs me because I wish people would “get over it” but that’s NOT my call to make for them and so I always try to fall back on that axiom whether or not it makes me grumpy. I’m a white male and with that comes a good amount of history and context that I do not personally feel responsible for, but that practically I must acknowledge.
HOWEVER, I feel that others, not in such an “empowered” position continue to use divisive language (all guys do this, wypipo, whatever) and perhaps feel that it’s their “right” to do so… it may even BE their right to do so because of the history of power, etc. However, having a right and BEING right are two different things and though continuing the language of divisiveness may not mean you’re part of the problem, it DOES mean you’re consciously deciding to not be part of the solution.
