Before heading into Takoma Park for the Spark today, I did something I never do. I went… and had… lunch… with a friend.
It wasn’t a gig. It had no stated business purpose. It was a “hey, we should get together sometime” conversation put to task.
Miles Gannett had been at the last ilyAIMY show at New Deal Cafe and we said those fateful words : “we should get together sometime” and rather than just let it go, I said “well, how about Tuesday”. It wasn’t THAT simple of course. No-one’s available the first date put to them. I think it’s a subset of Murphy’s Law. Something under social unavailability malleable temporal matrices or some such.
But the NEXT Tuesday was available, and so today found Miles and I, who go back all the way to Jahva House in the late 90s, wandering the Columbia Lake Front, nabbing lunch and being surprised by deer, 3 turtles, a rabbit and geese – and that’s without mentioning innumerable dogs and their unmentionable humans.
It was a good time had. We apparently have a lot more in common, right down to the same NASA Federal Credit Union! And it was just… nice.
Nice enough that I had to remind myself to break away and make away to Takoma Park for my fabulous featured artist, Ceeka.
