I saw my first legit UFO tonight.
Over the many many years I’ve been watching the skies, I’ve seen planes and strange helicopters. I’ve literally gotten to see space lasers and the Space Shuttle. I’ve watched satellites and I’ve seen drones and of COURSE I’ve seen Venus, heat lightning, and flights of geese. I’ve seen meteor showers and comets and at least one amazing bolide… unless it was a flare.
But tonight, we came out of the Double T after getting comfort food in an uncomfortable proximity to one of the loudest conversations I’ve ever had the misfortune of encountering in a restaurant, and I spotted a bright light hanging in the sky. I was in the process of commenting to Kristen that I absolutely had no idea what it was when I realized it lined up with the radio tower across from us on Route 40 and then I assumed it must’ve been the warning light at the top of the tower – but even as I said it (and Kristen says “I don’t THINK so”) I realize it’s not aligned with that at all actually… At that point I’m assuming it’s an airplane at a perfect angle to look as if it’s not moving. We’re buckling in, watching the pinpoint of very bright light, waiting to see if we can register it moving when all of a sudden it just zips away, down and across route 40, west off and around the diner.
We’re unfortunately in a world where something magical like ALIENS is pretty far down on my list of possibilities, I’m assuming it was a drone (it was too bright and white and there wasn’t enough cloud cover for a reflected laser, though it kind of moved like that) though I feel like you only see drones with a light like that as part of big displays and stuff. To see just one seems really odd. But maybe it was flying single file, to hide it’s numbers?
But it’s the first flying object that I have legit come away from unable to identify.
It’s kinda cool.
