September 10th, 2025. A Change of Plans.

On a month-long trip, you’re invariably going to have some mishaps, double-backs, misunderstandings and chaos. However, when you see not only a rabbit, but a jackelope, you know you’re not TOO far off your path.
Thank goodness for geo-tagged photographs! That allows me to look back and understand that this is the Three T-38 Jets Statue, formerly of a local air museum – now in front of the Owatonna, Minnesota Municipal Airport.

Today turned into “just” a travel day. Due to some small kerfuffling it turned out to be easier to do our Live from the Lair in Sioux Falls TOMORROW rather than tonight and we’ve basically just gotten up in Minneapolis, meandered a bit, gotten coffee and gotten on the road. Once in Sioux Falls, we met up with our new friend Lim and his family – who I’ve been texting since June but have never met! The guy’s a BELIEVER in chosen family and community and has folded us right into his heart. We snag Vietnamese food and then he drives us around town as if he’s trying to gift-wrap his obviously beloved home town.

Look at all those big, beautiful windmills – totally not killing birds or causing cancer! I swear, the moment a public figure puts out fake information about stuff like this they ought to be sued to within an inch of their Life. South Dakota has vast windfarms dotting the “real” farms. It’s cool to look at their spindly shadows on the satellite view on my phone… because there ARE parts of Living in the future that are really cool.
As always, pulling into the home of someone we absolutely do NOT know can be a little concerning. But a rabbit in the yard gives me courage!

Whoever’s idea it was to give electric cars artificial engine noises has probably saved Lives, especially at folk festivals where the damned things come creeping on you from all angles. However, the person who realized you could put any old noise in there and made electric Hondas sound like angels heralding the second coming of Christ has some questions to answer. I shouldn’t have to suddenly feel like I need to do a critical list of my myriad sins just because someone’s backing out of a parking space.

The future is fucking WEIRD and I’m Living in it.
