Insanely cold weather is here. And it’s here to stay for a
while. Single digit lows every night for the next week and not a single
temperature above freezing for another couple days beyond that has me a little
nervous. Not for myself, but for my mom’s house. I went down to Seabrook yesterday
morning before Joey came over to record, left a faucet dripping (the right
faucet?) and turned what knobs I could get to (the right knobs?) and I’m
worried about getting some sort of broken pipe or something over the next
couple of days… but the snow’s coming tonight and I probably LITERALLY won’t be
able to get down there for the next several days. I’ll have to make my way back
as I’m able to shovel her walk, I guess, but I legit have no idea what I’ll do
if a pipe bursts.
| The bartender started singing on close to the end of the evening last night. It was a good way to wrap the night. |
I guess a really good rob would be staying down there at
this time, but… no.
And so I’m trying not to worry about it at the moment. The
roads’ll be clear by Monday or Tuesday and I’ll try to get in and check things
out, but I’m angry that this is on my plate. Not that it was ever going to go
any other way, I guess.
But that’s the right answer, right? I SHOULD be Living down
there and working my way through the house, putting recording and rehearsal and
Life on pause? Running “what I should do” right into “what I’m willing to do”
is an ugly statement about myself, but here we are.
Here at home, the wind is fingering its way around the
doors. We could use better insulation, better weather stripping, better
everything, but I think we’ll be fine. It’s a good weekend to have a townhouse,
a bad weekend to have street parking. This week has been filled with ups and downs
and in any other circumstances, the snow would be a welcome force STOP of Life.
If I didn’t have to worry about my mother’s house, I’d be eager for the weekend,
Monday was up (prepping for VOM) and then down (VOM).
Tuesday was down (dreading the day) then up (recording Rowan and lunching with
Heather and Rowan at Atwaters) and then down (driving the LONG drive to Takoma
Park) and then up (the SPARK was marvelous this week). Wednesday was down till
it was up (yay Mike Bragg in the Lair!) and Thursday was up until it was down
(I was SO excited for band practice, but it was a BAD band practice). Yesterday
was down till it was up (driving to my mother’s, worrying, but then recording Joey
was wonderful) and then down (I think we’ve watched ALL media known to mankind)
til it was up (nope, we’ve not – holy crap – “Hell Comes to Frogtown”).
And today Heather and I are driving to York, PA for a show
that will HOPEFULLY let us out well ahead of the storm front, coming home to
hunker and hide with cat and wife.
Yes indeed. We shall see what becomes of us.
And of my mom’s house.
