Everything is about follow up and follow through. I make a LOT of good starts on things. I’m terrible about follow up and follow through. I’m trying to keep track of all my mother’s doctors, I’m trying to wrap my brain around disposing of my mother’s house (and man, I hate it, but it really is about “disposal”). We’ve got a tour coming up in June and I don’t have my head wrapped around this. I see some light at the end of the tunnel (more a pleasant little courtyard incongruously constructed in the darkness of a tunnel – some sort of light and air circulation shaft) coming in another week, but that’s a slow down solely predicated by Heather’s upcoming gallbladder surgery, and that comes with it’s own stretch of stressors.
Yesterday, Heather and I played together for what feels like the first time in a long time. She’s been in New York and then Canada – it’s been a month since we’ve performed together and I don’t KNOW how long since it was just the two of us. It was a refreshing, beautiful day out at Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyards in Dickerson, MD and I don’t know that we could’ve asked for a more beautiful day. Nor a more beautiful night for the drive. Rich and fragrant, the winding roads back from Dickerson, shifting patches of insect noise and frogs singing. Absolutely Lovely.
The next day was much the same, playing a full band show at Monocacy in Frederick. Stunning weather. The only mar on the day was having to get there extra early to run through songs for our friend Erik Perkin’s memorial service – but even that came with a silver lining. It meant we arrived just as a bunch of bikers were gathering for their OWN kind of service, a fundraiser to build houses for homeless veterans. It was it’s own brand of chaos, but since chaos IS our brand, it was very ON brand for us.
This coming week is going to be a lot, and with it all Heather’s got a house guest – our old friend Dave Dersham is coming to town for a Spark, a Lair, and a show. It’ll be good to see him, I just hope we have TIME.
