April 26th, 2026. Post Dark Horse.

Kristen getting the check and the chat from Pinky at the end of the night. I was amused that their hair matched from the back.

I must admit that one of the most satisfying things in my
Life right now is playing Dark Horse in Annapolis, MD, coming home and eating
our leftovers while watching something random, going to bed entirely too late
and waking up around noon the next day. There’s something deliciously 110%
about it all, something post-coital, something thoroughly “Life well-Lived”
about it.

The Dark Horse crowd handed me a card for Heather. I
think Dark Horse is kinda sweet on us.

Last night was frustrating, scary, ultimately joyous and
satisfying. It’s always scary playing a gig that USUALLY has Heather SANS
Heather, and as she’s still recovering from her gallbladder removal, that was
what destiny and surgery held for us for last night. We knew it was coming, we
even got a concerned Pinky (owner of Dark Horse) double-checking that we were
still playing even though we wouldn’t have her. I was definitely in my head
that people wouldn’t respond as well, that I’d be fielding questions about it,
that people would ask “oh, are you looking for a new lead singer?”

No, she’s NOT the lead singer. No she DIDN’T leave the band.
No…

No questions like that at all. Everyone already knew we’d be
without her. Everyone knew why. No-one was dissatisfied. I have the sound
dialed in at Dark Horse, we jammed a little longer than usual, we had a really
good time +/- some … personnel problems that are also personal. There’s a tinge
of disappointment as I realize the audio files from the night are corrupted. We
played some amazing music last night, but there’s also… forensic evidence.

Meh. I should take more pictures of us. More pictures of our
audience. Remember to advertise upcoming shows. Buy IEMs. There’s always
something to do better, but we also do pretty well.

I slept long enough to have dreams – which I don’t think
I’ve had since I was in the depths of the Sickness back in March. And sans the
influence of codeine and Nyquil, they weren’t even particularly nightmarish. I
think I was on a plane, flying home – simultaneously somehow watching an
episode of the A Team while also being part of the plot. Generic Bad Guys had
smuggled froze embryos of a dire wolf and a sheep (labeled “Canis Maximus” and
“Dolly” respectively) in cut up cardboard boxes from 12” Star Wars figures –
specifically Bossk. It’s THAT that caught my eye cause it’s a figure I covet
and I was now witness to a crime.

The Bad Guys had tried to set a “wild” fire to cover up
their crime, throwing an Arakh at a powerline repeatedly in the attempt to chop
it down and spark a blaze but as a witness, they had to erase me too. On the
plane on the way back a man sat next to me in a blue velour shirt. I pet the
shirt sleeve for a bit, fuzzy and friendly, and then he shook my hand. I felt a
cold, liquid tinge and I knew I’d been poisoned as he smiled at me.

I woke up.

Kristen is wearing a blue velour shirt today.

Meep.

In other news, while trying to get the correct spelling for
“velour”, google allowed and reinforced the spelling “velore” because it’s a
brand name. Thanks, google.

In other news, Gumloop, my AI assistant, has been helping
migrate the Journal from WordPress to Blogger. I hope I’m making good choices.
But it’s using up my entire post quota in the meantime, meaning I can’t post
Journal entries.

If it ain’t one thing.

It’s always, always, always another.

(huh, except sometimes I can fool it by posting from my phone)
