Achievement unlocked: I have touched a chipmunk.
More accurately, a chipmunk has touched me.
This morning I’ve managed to hurkle durkle on the front steps, which is not technically hurkle durkling as I wasn’t under the covers, but I WAS simply lounging on the steps long beyond when I technically SHOULD, simply listening to the leaves and the boats and the birds and the trees. And a chipmunk, in a hurry, as they’ve always been, sprinted across my toe.
I now feel quite complete with our stay on Cape Cod and am ready to move on. We have thoughts on how gigs could play out, and I AM sad we didn’t get out to play at least ONE open mic to make a connection or two, but sometimes it’s just about you and the sea and the Panic of the Chipmunks.
The raptors in the area seem much more focused on fish and shellfish, the ospreys that I keep teasing dive and drag quite large fish back to their nest. The little swifts swoop and splash and swiftly vanish with their silver prizes. The seagulls nab crabs and conchs out of the bay and drop them onto the rocks, feasting on the exposed innards. But I haven’t seen much for the chipmunks and squirrels and rabbits and turtles to fear. Terrestrial animals seem to be able to Live easily in this little yard, at least during the day.
And so, little chipmunk, why the hurry? Come here and make me a Disney Princess.
