So, I’m figuring out a better way to divide my time and spirit betwixt Institute of Musical Traditions and the SPARK open mics and my own Life, and part of that is making sure THEY have all their cameras, and I can function entirely with MY cameras. The intermingling of gear is always dangerous, but I’ve been allowing that to be a little sloppy for years.

And so tonight I was running with my DSLRs for the webcast (using just my phone for photos, not a lot worth keeping) just to test them out – specifically to test them out for running Live from the Lair from Paradise tomorrow night.

Looks like things worked out!

(hrm, clearly issues with mixing sound while *I’M* on stage, as usual… but no-one seems to be able to deal with listening to the mix for me, sigh – not that it’s perfect when I’m ostensibly attentive to the webmix… still a little hot – I’d also swapped back to the 2i2v3 vs the v4 to have easy access to knobs, but because of the orientation of the XLRs the halos are less visible and it’s HARDER to see the overdrives… bleah)

It was kind of a relaxed evening. Unfortunately Quiet the Mountain, our planned feature, had called out sick. Additionally Dave Eisner had had dental surgery this morning leaving me kind of a tighter workflow. Juels still helped with cameras, Clifton pushed some buttons once he rolled in, but I must admit that generally I find things run a bit smoother when I’m the only person mixing the room.

Some amazing songwriting was on display tonight. Especially in the tail end of the night, the strange whimsy of Greg P with his Featherman song, Dan Schramm’s historical tales, Clifton dusting off some stuff that’d been hiding on the shelves… had an interesting conversation with Rebecca and Jim Barry about songwriting and what we lay bare on the stage.

*I* might have to pull out some things I wouldn’t normally pull out… and soon. Much of June and July will probably be robless at ye olde SPARK.
